Air India has a fixed baggage policy that you must follow if you want your bags to be transported by the airline. Economy ticket holders are allowed to take single baggage with dimensions of 115 cm. The maximum weight of the bag cannot exceed 8 kg. For bags exceeding this allocation limit, you will be charged an extra payment.

Additionally, if you have a child with you, the same arrangements will be maintained for the child, while infants without their own seats are only applicable to receive 10 kg weight worth of baggage allowance along with one stroller, buggy or child car seat.

Air India Excess Baggage Fee

For domestic flights, any excess baggage is worth SAR 27 or INR 600 in addition to the GST per kg. The excess charge for international flights depends on the route that you will be taking is reported in the table below. All currencies are in USD:

The band 1 countries involved in this route are Bangladesh, Myanmar, Afghanistan, and Nepal. Band 2 involves East Asia and South Africa. Band 3 involves New Zealand, Australia, and Fuji. Hong Kong and Japan are considered Band 4. Flights within other countries not involving India are within Band 5.

Air India Special Baggage

As long as the sporting kit you are using is only 6 kg, you are allowed to transport your special baggage completely free of charge. For weights exceeding 6 kg, you will be charged extra money until 15 kg. After this, the airline authorities will not allow you to take your equipment.

In addition, if you need to carry any small firearms you will have the right licensing to carry them and declare them when you are going to check them in. You are only allowed to take 50 cartridges with you and must make a handling charge of INR 5000 per firearm.
