Emirates Baggage Allowance: Things You Should Know Before Travel

Emirates Cabin Baggage Allowance:

Economy class passengers of Emirates can carry one baggage of 7 kg on board. Emirates allows up to 10 kg of cabin baggage for Premium Economy class passengers. Business & First Class passengers of Emirates have the privilege to take two cabin baggage on board, each bag has to be within 7 kg.

Emirates has varied allowance on the size of different category cabin baggage. A carry-on briefcase can not exceed the dimension of (45x35x20)cm (Length x Width x Height). The size allowance for a carry-on handbag is (55 x 38 x 20)cm (Length x Width x Height). If a passenger carries any garment bag on board its thickness has to be within 20cm (8 inches) in folded form.

Emirates Checked Baggage allowance:

Emirates allows baggage based on the total weight of all your baggage except for the flight from/to America and Africa. Emirates has restrictions on the allowed number of baggage as well as weight limitation of baggage on the flights from/to America and Africa. Except for flights from/to America and Africa, all flights of Emirates follow the weight concept on baggage allowance. Passengers can check-in as many bags as they want but each bag can not weigh more than 32 kg. The total weight allowance for checked-in baggage of Emirates varies for each travel class.

Baggage exceeding a maximum of 300 cm (118 inches) in dimension will not be considered checked-in baggage and it will be sent to transfer as cargo or freight.

All the flights from/to America and Africa of Emirates follow the ‘piece concept’ on baggage allowance. Passengers can check in a certain number of bags within a weight limitation based on their travel class.

On ‘piece concept’ flights, additional fees will be charged on each baggage for exceeding 150 cm (length + width + height) in total dimension. Baggage exceeding the dimension of 300 cm can not be checked in on flights.

Emirates’ over-weight and oversized baggage fees are quite high. But you can save a lot if you purchase an extra baggage allowance. Extra baggage allowance can be purchased online or at the airport prior to flight time.’Extra baggage allowance price is a lot less than oversized and overweight fees. You can save even more by purchasing an extra baggage allowance online in advance. Emirates offers a special discount on online purchases of the additional allowance. You can purchase your additional allowance 4 hours before your flight using your credit card.

As the free baggage allowance of emirates depends on the total weight/ number of baggage, you can purchase additional baggage allowance either on weight concept or piece concept. If your flight applies the weight concept, you need to purchase additional weight. Additional pieces of baggage can be purchased for the flights that follow the piece concept.

Can I bring more than 1 carry-on bag in the Economy class of Emirates?

No, more than one carry-on bag can not be brought on board in the Economy class of Emirates. You have to upgrade your ticket to First or business class to be able to carry two pieces of baggage. 

Is a laptop included in the allowed 7 kg carry-on baggage of Emirates?

Yes, the total weight of your baggage including all your belongings has to be within 7kg.
