Etihad Airways is the second flag carrier of UAE and is one of the most popular travelling partners for long-distance travel. Etihad is safe and reliable so if you are thinking of buying a ticket through this airline, you should first get to know all the rules and regulations imposed on the passengers.
Etihad Airways follows a very generous policy and regulation for carry-on baggage. You can take a standard bag of up to 7 kg which must fit the overhead cabin on top of your seat. In addition, you are eligible to carry a personal or laptop bag along with you. The dimension of the carrying on the bag is 50*40*25 cm. then each economy passenger gets 23 kg checked-in baggage.

Etihad Personal Bag
In addition to the standard bag mentioned above, you are also allowed to take in another small personal baggage that must be small enough to fit the compartment under your bag. You should only have daily necessities and important documents that you think you might need in your personal bag. In addition, you can also pack some more items like:
- Travel documents and passport.
- Wallet and ID.
- Dry food in controlled amounts.
- Toothpaste and toothbrush.
- Toiletries.
- Baby food.
- Clothes in case you feel cold like a jacket and scarf.
- Laptops and similar electronics are allowed inside.
If you want you can also bring in duty-free shopping bags with a maximum size of 5 kg. Make sure that your total carry-on weight does not exceed 12 kg.

Etihad Special cases
Sporting equipment
If you have golf equipment to take, Etihad allows you to take one set of clubs weighing 15 kg free of charge. Other sporting equipment like scuba diving tools, fishing rods, etc- must be packaged within a total linear dimension of 300 cm. You will be charged an excess fee if any of these allocations is exceeded. The items that you can carry with you include:
- Speed boards
- Surfboards
- One pair of Skiboard, poles, and boots.
- One set of scuba diving equipment.
- One set of golf clubs and 2 balls.
- Two rods, one reel, one tackle box, and one pair of fishing rods.
Bicycles
If you are going to take any bike with you, first you must dismantle all the removable parts and set the paddle and handles in the same dimension. Any auxiliary installed parts must be removed beforehand.
Then package the bike to ensure that it does not exceed 300 cm of linear dimension. You could also cover the bike in a protective case beforehand. In addition, make sure that your bike isn’t electric. No e-bikes are allowed onboard even if the batteries are removed.
Musical instruments
If your instrument is small and can fit inside your carry-on, it is advised that you carry it inside your hand baggage. This setting is for free and will be easily transported to your hands. However, for bigger musical instruments, you must purchase an additional seat in advance.
If you are going to transport the instrument as checked baggage make sure that it meets the accurate requirements that are put in any checked baggage. The total dimension must not exceed 300 cm and the weight cannot be more than 32 kg. If you are going to purchase the cargo rights, you must make sure to package the instrument such that:
- Height: 155cm/61”
- Depth: 22cm/9”
- Width: 43cm/17”
- Weight: 75kg/165 lbs
Electronic devices
If you are going to pack spare or loose batteries, you must pack them inside your carry-on and the number of batteries must not exceed 10. Additionally, the output must not exceed 100 Watt-hours and the total amount of metal in the batteries must not exceed 2 grams.
While drones are allowed inside your bags, you must ensure to not use them while you are inside the aeroplane. Also, the batteries used inside the drone must be 100Wh or less. For that above 100Wh and below 160Wh, airport authorization is required. Anything above that will not be transported.
Medical instruments
Except for wheelchairs, crutch, and walking sticks, if you need to take more medical instruments with you, you will need to show the right medical certificates to the airline authorities before you can take them with you.
Make sure that the power rating of the medical device is between 100-160Wh and the metal content in the batteries is 2-3g. Anything above that is not allowed. If you need any oxygen-supplying machines no need to bring them along since the airline authorities will provide them for you.
Pets
Several rules must be followed if you want to take your pet along with you. First of all, you need the right vaccination certificates as well as the age certificate so that your pet is at least 16 weeks old.
For economy classes, the kennel allowed must not exceed 40 x 40 x 22cm. Business classes are allowed an allocation of 50 x 43 x 50cm. Pets above 8 kg must be sent along with the cargo.
Do note that if you are going to take a falcon with you, it must be caged in an airline-approved cage which costs about 100 USD per cage. In Economy class, a single falcon is allowed per person. In Business class you can bring in 2 falcons per person. If you purchase an extra seat beforehand, you are eligible to take 3 falcons along with you.
For trained service animals, there are several checkpoints that you must ensure before you can take it to the aircraft. You must make sure that your pet is properly leashed and will not escape. In addition, you must carry the correct documentation to prove that it was trained. You can only take one service animal per seat.
Etihad Restricted items
Several items have been marked as contrabands and are restricted onboard. These restrictions are applicable to your checked-in baggage and carry-on bags.
- Sharp or pointy items that could cause punctures.
- Chemicals or Poisonous fluids including pesticides, as well as shampoos, detergents, and other similar substances.
- Matchboxes and lighters or any sort of fire-hazardous objects of any type cannot be in any of your bags.
- Stunning devices like tasers and batons can stun and harm the human body.
- Any sort of drugs or medicine, unless you have a doctor’s prescription to prove your need for them.
- Large electrical devices like hoverboards, e-bikes, solo wheels, balance wheels, etc.
- No fruits can be carried either in your bag or on your person. It is prohibited even in liquid form.
- Delicate items like jewellery and glassware could break easily on the least contact.
- Radioactive or oxidizing materials.
