Philippine Airlines Baggage Allowance, Size, Weight, Fees & Policy in 2023

Firstly, it is necessary to mention that, since each flight has its individual Free Baggage Allowance policy, it is applicable for that specific flight and might not be applicable for connecting flights. Also, Philippine Airlines might ask its passenger to pay an Excess Baggage Charge if the Free Baggage Allowance is comparatively less than connecting flights.

Philippine Airlines Carry-On Baggage:

Each passenger is allowed to have one carry-on baggage with: a maximum total dimension of 56cm x 36cm x 23cm (22inch x 14inch x 9inch) and a maximum weight of 7kgs or 15 lbs. Passengers can choose to carry a maximum of any two items from the following list:

• 1 small handbag
• pocketbook
• purse
• 1 blanket or overcoat
• 1 camera/ binoculars
• Laptop
• reading material
• food for baby
• the prosthetic device, i.e., walking stick, crutches, braces, etc.

Domestic Flights Allowance:

The flights operated by PAL within the Philippines are its domestic flights.

Domestic flights can be divided into two classes of flight:

• Economy class
• Business-class.

*Note: The economy class can be divided into five subclasses based on the facilities provided. Similarly, the business class can be divided into two. On the basis of this division, the weight of the FBA varies and is mentioned in the table below:

Economy Class: In a domestic flight, if a passenger travels in economy class, he/she can carry 10-25 kgs/piece of baggage and can also choose to carry no bags at all.

International Flights Allowance:

• Economy class: If you’re travelling to/from Asian countries (except Korea) in economy class, you can carry a maximum of 25kg per piece of baggage (30kg on/before 31st December 2021) and a maximum of 23kg per piece while travelling to/from USA and Canada. If you’re travelling to/from Korea, you can carry a maximum of 20kg (25kg on/before 31st December).

International Codeshare Flights:

Codeshare flights are joint operations conducted by two or more carriers operating with a partnered airline.

In Economy class of Codeshare flights to/from the Philippines from/to the routes:

• Bahrain (GF)/ Tokyo (NH)/ Brunei (BI), the free baggage allowance is 23kg.
• Istanbul (TK)/ Kuala Lumpur (MH)/ Jinjiang (MF)/ Taipei (CI) is 30kg.

In Business class of Codeshare flights to/from the Philippines from/to the routes:

• Bahrain (GF)/ Tokyo (NH) is 32kg.
• Istanbul (TK)/ Kuala Lumpur (MH)/ Jinjiang (MF)/ Taipei (CI) )/ Brunei (BI) is 40kg.

Philippine Airlines Extra Baggage Allowance:

EBA per kilo depends on the destination from/to the passenger is travelling.

• If the passenger travels to/from Asian countries, the fee ranges from USD 8- to USD 12 per kilo.
• On the other hand, if the routes are to/from the Pacific, i.e., Auckland, Sydney, etc., the fee is around USD 24.
•  If we consider European routes, the fee for extra baggage is USD 50 per kg and is comparatively thrice and twice as much as it is taken for Asian and Pacific routes.
• For Middle East routes, extra baggage is charged USD 100 per piece instead of in per kilogram.
• While travelling from Japan, the fee is USD 120 per piece.

In the case of the allowed number of pieces, the extra baggage allowance also varies according to the different routes. Some common routes and EBA per piece are mentioned below:

Like Philippine Airlines, Excess Baggage Fee is applicable in the case of all the other airlines such as Malaysia Airlines (20 dollars per extra kg), AirAsia, etc.

Philippine Airlines Infant’s Baggage:

1. Baggage of infants is allowed to be kept on lap.
2. If an infant doesn’t have any seat, the following FBA will be applicable only if 10 per cent or more of the applicable adult fare is paid:
3. Carry-on baggage is not applicable.
4. Checked baggage is not applicable for domestic flights, but one baggage not exceeding 10 kilos is allowed for international flights.
5. While travelling to USA, Canada, and Japan, one baggage with a maximum of 23 kgs is permitted.

3.   The size of the baggage must not exceed 62 inches.

4.   A fully collapsible stroller or infant’s carrying basket may be allowed but depends on the availability of extra space.

*Note: if an infant has his/her seat, standard rules of FBA are to be followed.

PAL Multi-City Baggage:

If the passenger travels to multiple cities using a single PAL ticket, FBA and other baggage fees will be determined by his/her Most Significant Carrier, the Marketing Carrier.

*Note: If the passenger has a one-way ticket that starts or ends in the USA or Canada, the first Marketing Carrier will decide the FBA and EBA charges.

CPAP Devices:

• Passengers can bring portable oxygen concentrators, ventilators, etc., onboard following the provided guidelines/instructions.
• It is necessary to contact the airline to clarify if the model of the passenger’s device is allowed onboard or not.
