Eva Air Baggage Allowance & Policy: Size, Weight & Fees in 2023

Taiwan-based Eva Air has more than 40 destinations and is primarily privately owned, operating a totally international route system. The airline has created several policies for its various offers and one of them is the Eva Air baggage policy. EVA Air’s baggage allowance is pretty reasonable, but don’t be snagged by overweight checked luggage.

All passengers flying from the United States and Canada, as well as other countries in Latin America, are allowed 2 checked bags weighing 50 lbs./23 kg each and 1 carry-on baggage weighing 7 kg/15 lbs. each for Economy.

It is possible that Eva Air can charge you additional costs if your checked luggage exceeds the limit for your cabin class.

Carry-on Allowance policy

Instead of sending your small luggage to the cargo compartment, you can keep your carry-on luggage with you in the plane’s cabin. When flying with Eva Air, your carry-on baggage is checked before you get on the aircraft. All carry-on baggage must fit either in the overhead bin or beneath the seat in front of you while travelling.

Royal Laurel, Premium Laurel, and Business Class

The weight system:

• 2 pieces of carry-on bags/handbags plus 1 personal item
• Carry-on baggage must not exceed the following dimensions: 56 x 36 x 23cm / 22 x 14 x 9in
• The carry-on bag’s maximum weight should not exceed 7kg / 15,4lbs.
• The bag should not exceed a total of 115 cm / 45 in with handles & wheels
• The following dimensions of Personal item is 40 x 30 x 10cm (16 x 12 x 4in), or a total of 80cm (32in).

Premium Economy and Economy Class

When it comes to flight classes, the economy and premium economy are not so different, with a little difference in price tags. On foreign flights, premium economy seats are typically wider and the service is a little better than in economy.

The weight system:

• 1 piece of carry-on bag/handbag plus 1 personal item
• Carry-on baggage must not exceed the following dimensions: 56 x 36 x 23cm / 22 x 14 x 9in
• The carry-on bag’s maximum weight should not exceed 7kg / 15,4lbs.
• The following dimensions of Personal item is 40 x 30 x 10cm (16 x 12 x 4in), or a total of 80cm (32in).

Even though your carry-on luggage is the correct size, it might not be allowed on certain aeroplanes because of the aircraft’s storage limitations. Luggage not fitting in the overhead bin or beneath your seat will be treated as checked baggage.

Checked Baggage Allowance

• Should not exceed 50lb/23kg each
• 158cm/62in is the maximum total linear dimension for each bag.

For Economy Discount passengers:

• 1 piece of checked bag
• Should not exceed 50lb/23kg
• 158cm/62in is the maximum total linear dimension for each bag.

The Weight System

For Royal Laurel, Premium Laurel, and Business Class passengers:

• Total Baggage weighing 88lb/40kg per passenger
• Should not exceed 158cm/62in is the maximum total linear dimension for each bag.

For Premium Economy Class passengers:

• Total Baggage weighing 77lb/35kg per passenger
• Should not exceed 158cm/62in is the maximum total linear dimension for each bag.

For Economy Class passengers:

• On Up fares Total Baggage weighing 77lb/35kg per passenger.
• On Standard or Basic fares, Total Baggage weighs 66lb/30kg per passenger.
• On Discount, fares Total Baggage weighing 44lb/20kg per passenger.
• Should not exceed 158cm/62in is the maximum total linear dimension for each bag.

Members of Infinity MileageLands and Star Alliance are eligible for additional luggage allowance.  These members are permitted to carry the following:

• On piecemeal system routes, one additional checked bag weighing up to 50lb/23kg is permitted.
• 44lb/20kg per person surcharge on weight system routes.

Members of the Infinity MileageLands Silver Card are also eligible for an additional luggage allowance.

• On piece system routes, one additional checked bag weighing up to 50lb/23kg per person is permitted.
• 22lb/10kg per person surcharge on weight system routes.

EVA Air Reservations must be notified 48 hours before departure if you want to travel with any baggage that will exceed 70 pounds (32 kilograms), including musical instruments, sporting equipment, household goods, photographic equipment, medical equipment, or pets.

Excess Baggage Fees

EVA AIR will charge you an additional baggage tax for each kilogram you exceed the limit. Extra baggage charges will be applied depending on the zone in which the extra luggage is kept as well as the baggage system in use:

Excess baggage taxes are charged per kilogram (2.2 lbs.) in four zones. Usually, it’s 115 USD to 230 USD per kg. Rates of 45 USD per kg between Bangkok and Amsterdam, Vienna, or London Heathrow (ZONE 4) are standard.

Excess baggage taxes are based on the number of pieces in each of the four zones. Normally, it’s between 8 USD to 60 USD per piece.

Every piece of luggage that exceeds the weight or size limitations, even if it falls within the airline’s free baggage requirement, generates additional charges:

Prepaid Excess Baggage Fees

EVA Air offers a 10% discount for pre-ordering luggage on their website. Excess luggage could well be purchased after the purchase of a ticket, as well as up to 24 hours prior to departure:

• Up to 100 kilograms in total, each bag may weigh up to 30 kilograms, and each bag can weigh up to 30 kilograms in total.
• You can check up to five pieces of extra luggage, each weighing no more than 23 kg.
